Herringbone is a broken-twill weave where the diagonal direction reverses at regular intervals, creating a distinctive V-shaped or chevron pattern. Unlike standard twill where the diagonal runs continuously in one direction, herringbone’s direction change creates a broken visual line that:

  • Adds visual texture — more dimensional than standard twill, more subtle than a patterned fabric
  • Increases fabric stability — the weave reversal reduces fabric distortion and bias stretch
  • Hides wrinkles — the broken pattern disguises creasing between washes

Herringbone is most commonly specified for premium chef coats, management blazers, and high-end hospitality suiting where a standard twill is too plain but a pattern is too bold.
