Description
Why a Consultation Coat Is a Different Garment, Not Just a Shorter Lab Coat
A hospital lab coat is built for durability through long clinical shifts and frequent institutional laundering — that’s a utility garment first. A consultation coat serves a different purpose: it’s typically laundered less aggressively (private practice dry cleaning or standard commercial wash, not 150+ hospital-grade cycles per year), worn in a single-provider or small-clinic setting, and judged primarily on drape, fit, and polish rather than industrial wash tolerance.
Because of this, we offer the consultation coat in two fabric options, matched to how your practice actually launders and what impression you want the coat to project.
Fabric Options
| Fabric | Best For | Key Trait |
|---|---|---|
| 65/35 T/C (Polyester-Cotton) | Practices with frequent in-house or commercial laundering | Higher wash-temperature tolerance, crisp matte finish |
| 65/35 T/R (Polyester-Rayon) | Private practice, specialist consultation, dry-cleaned or moderate-temperature laundering | Superior drape, richer color depth, softer handfeel — the same blend logic used in our executive and front-of-house uniform lines |
Not sure which fits your practice? Our T/R vs T/C comparison guide breaks down the trade-offs — the short version: if your coat is dry-cleaned or washed under 75°C, T/R gives you a more polished, tailored look; if it goes through frequent high-temperature commercial laundering, T/C holds up better long-term.

FAQ
What’s the difference between this and your hospital lab coat? The consultation coat is cut shorter, tailored for a more polished, front-facing appearance, and offered in a T/R fabric option for superior drape — the hospital lab coat is built specifically for high-frequency institutional laundering at higher volumes and temperatures. If your practice does its own frequent high-temperature laundering, our T/C consultation coat or the full lab coat line may be a better fit than T/R.
Should I choose T/C or T/R? If the coat will be dry-cleaned or washed at moderate temperatures, T/R gives a noticeably better drape and richer color. If it goes through frequent commercial hot-water laundering, T/C holds up longer with less fiber degradation over time.
Can I order a mix of both fabrics for different staff roles? Yes — many practices order T/R for physicians and T/C for support staff who need more frequent, higher-temperature laundering. We can produce both from the same color specification for visual consistency.
What’s the minimum order quantity? 50 units per style, color, and fabric option.
What documentation do you provide with bulk orders? Fiber composition certificates, colorfastness test reports (ISO 105-C06), and shrinkage test data (ISO 6330), batch-specific and matched to your shipment’s roll numbers.
