PCP-120-AM — PC Poplin 120gsm with Silver Ion Antimicrobial

PCP-120-AM is a lightweight PC poplin treated with silver ion (Ag+) antimicrobial finish — purpose-engineered for medical office shirts, administrative uniforms, and light-duty healthcare apparel where a crisp, professional appearance must be maintained through long shifts in clinical environments.

65% polyester provides the wrinkle resistance, shape retention, and industrial wash durability that hospital and clinic uniform programs demand. 35% cotton delivers the breathability and comfort needed for all-day wear in climate-controlled healthcare facilities. At just 120 GSM, this is our lightest antimicrobial-treated fabric — designed specifically for environments where heat buildup and garment weight are concerns.

The fine yarn count (Ne 45 × Ne 45) and high thread density (130 × 80) create a smooth, tightly woven poplin surface with a clean, formal appearance suitable for name badge attachment, embroidery, and professional presentation.

Why 120 GSM for Healthcare?

Most medical uniform fabrics sit at 180–200 GSM — appropriate for scrubs and clinical roles that require durability. But administrative and light-clinical roles (reception, medical records, billing, administration, lab techs) do not need the same fabric weight. A 120 GSM poplin provides:

  • Lower heat retention — noticeably cooler than standard 190gsm twill in warm clinics
  • Crisper appearance — fine-count poplin holds a sharper collar and cuff than heavier twills
  • Lower cost-per-garment — less fiber content, lower fabric cost, without sacrificing durability
  • Professional office aesthetic — looks like a dress shirt, not a scrub

The antimicrobial treatment ensures that even in close-contact clinical environments, bacterial growth on the fabric surface is suppressed continuously — between washes and during wear.

Fabric Hand & Appearance

  • Hand feel: Lightweight, smooth, crisp — classic dress shirt poplin hand. The fine yarn count creates a fabric that feels premium without being heavy.
  • Appearance: Clean, tight poplin surface with a subtle matte luster. Takes embroidery and badge attachment cleanly. No visible treatment residue.
  • Drape: Lightweight with body — holds a shirt collar and cuff structure without stiffness. Skims the body without clinging.

Care Instructions

Care Step Instruction
Washing Machine wash 60°C, normal cycle — industrial wash compatible
Bleaching Do not bleach — chlorine bleach degrades silver ion efficacy
Drying Tumble dry medium, or hang dry — remove promptly
Ironing Medium iron (150°C) — lightweight poplin irons quickly
Dry cleaning Permitted (PCE)

✅ Care advantage: The 65% polyester content makes this fabric durable through industrial laundry despite its light weight. Wash at 60°C with standard protocols. Avoid chlorine bleach to preserve antimicrobial efficacy. The fine yarn count means the fabric dries quickly — approximately 20–30% faster than 190gsm twill.

FAQ

Q: Is 120 GSM too lightweight for daily wear in a medical setting? A: No — 120 GSM is appropriate for administrative, management, and light-clinical roles where the wearer is primarily indoors, seated, or in climate-controlled environments. For clinical roles that involve physical activity, lifting, or frequent movement, we recommend a heavier fabric (190–200 GSM twill).

Q: Will this fabric be see-through (sheer) at 120 GSM? A: No. The poplin weave at this density (130 × 80 threads/10cm) is tightly constructed despite the light weight. White and Light Blue are opaque in standard lighting. We do not recommend very light colors (pastel pink, ivory) for unlined women’s shirts without an undershirt — standard practice for any lightweight shirting fabric.

Q: How does the wrinkle resistance compare to heavier PC twills? A: The 65% polyester content provides good wrinkle resistance, and the high twist in the fine yarns (Ne 45) creates a natural spring-back effect. This fabric performs comparably to 190gsm PC twill in wrinkle recovery. For no-iron performance, add the DP finish.

Q: Can I get this fabric in a larger color range for corporate healthcare programs? A: Yes, but MOQ applies. For corporate program colors beyond our 5 stock colors, minimum 500m per color. We can match any Pantone. This is common for hospital systems that have specific brand colors for management-level uniforms.

Q: Is this fabric suitable for embroidery with hospital logos? A: Yes, the tight poplin construction and medium weight hold embroidery cleanly. Use standard 40–60 weight embroidery thread. We recommend avoiding excessive stitch density (>12,000 stitches per design) on this lightweight fabric to prevent puckering.
